Back in time to Beamish!

A group of residents and staff from Fidra House have taken a trip down memory lane!  Stopping for a coffee break in Alnwick, they travelled on the Randolph Hill minibus on to Beamish Museum in County Durham. The open-air museum tells the story of life in the northeast of England in the 1900’s, 1940’s and 1950’s. The group decided to take the Beamish wheelchair accessible vehicle to visit the 1950’s town main street where they visited one of the houses with the coal fire burning warmly in the grate. The setting took the residents back to younger days. Along the street, the “salesman” in the electrical shop was in true character and tried to sell the group hire purchase for a fridge freezer with low deposit, and weekly payments.  The residents enjoyed the banter and humour, making the experience of visiting Beamish very authentic indeed.

Residents then enjoyed a fish and chips supper, and then each received a tin of boiled sweets to bring back to Fidra House. They said they were the best chips ever especially since they were wrapped in newspaper.

There is so much to see and do there so the next visit is already being planned!
