Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles

All of our 7 Nursing Homes are delighted to announce the arrival of a wheelchair-accessible vehicle each which are available for free use by family members, friends, and staff for resident outings. This service enables residents to enjoy personalised outings, attend medical appointments, and stay connected with loved ones and the community.

Muirfield staff member Mike took resident David to a hospital appointment at East Lothian Community Hospital in Haddington. David complemented the car saying it was “comfortable and as it was raining yesterday, it saved me getting wet. It’s a lovely car.”

Principal Carer, Stacey, took resident Felicity to a dentist appointment in Musselburgh. Felicity said that the car was “great for my appointment and I was so comfortable. Stacey usually takes me on the bus.”

Ashley Court resident Janette, enjoyed a trip in our new accessible vehicle to the Gyle centre for shopping and morning coffee.

A Fidra House relative shared her delight “This is absolutely music to our ears, since my father in law upgraded his wheelchair I could no longer get him out and about as I used to, to appointments and to visit family members as his new wheelchair was bulkier and much heavier than his previous one , it was no longer compatible to load him safely in our vehicle for him and myself . We as a family are so grateful for the offer to use this (wheelchair accessible vehicle) as he has been invited to (a previous charity workplace) Christmas party. Usually we walk to local appointments and have to bow out of invites such as this due to transport challenges . We were just discussing how we could make this at all possible for him to attend such an occasion . I will now be able to look at the diary and discuss plans so that we may just be able to go ! Santa has certainly come early ! An absolutely outstanding service for a care home to provide not just to residents but to all the family 😃look forward to some grand days out again!”
